Design, create, and innovate with sustainable and alternative materials

Take your jewellery practice in a bold new direction. This hands-on course is designed for makers who already have foundational metalworking skills and want to explore the creative potential of alternative materials like resin, wood, textiles, plastics and found objects.

You’ll build on your existing skills to design and construct innovative, wearable pieces using a mix of traditional techniques and non-traditional materials. It’s the perfect next step if you’re ready to experiment, expand your material palette, or explore more sculptural or conceptual forms.

  • Explore a range of alternative materials and creative techniques.
  • Combine metal elements with unconventional materials.
  • Design and make your own findings to suit custom forms.
  • Develop personal approaches to form, texture, colour, and assembly.
  • Leave with a collection of original, handmade pieces.

I have the following attributes:

  • Creative flair
  • Accuracy and ability to undertake detailed work
  • Good hand-eye coordination
  • Patient and persistent nature
  • Intermediate computer skills and knowledge
  • This course is for students who already have basic metalworking skills. You must be confident cutting and forging metal and working with wire to create your own findings (e.g. hooks, clasps and jump rings).
