Graphic design is about using visual communication to convey a message to specific audience.

Whether you are planning a career in graphic design, want to upskill or take a refresher or just to dabble for your own interest, we have packaged four graphic design units to give you the tools to get started.

You might want to become a graphic designer but don't know what the requirements are, or you may be employed in a department or a small business and want to demonstrate some creative flair to promote the products and skills you deliver or you might be a solo trader keen to promote yourself and your services.

We are offering a series of four skill sets to boost your creative skills.

This skill set covers the requirements for accredited unit CUAGRD311 Prepare files for print and successful completion will give you a unit towards CUA40720 AC92 Certificate IV in Design (Graphic Design).
You'll gain the skills needed to create a page layout for magazines, books and photos.
Classes will focus on key industry software, Adobe InDesign and Photoshop. You'll develop your own Zine on a topic of your choice and a small marketing item for the Zine. In this process you will learn how to use typography and grids to effectively communicate ideas and content using images and text for the printed page. You'll also be shown basic image editing techniques to use in printed material. 

Important information

Classes will be delivered online (via Collaborate) on Tuesdays from 5:30pm - 7:30pm.

The following units will be offered in skill sets to be rolled out during the year to help round out your graphic design skills for use in the workplace or small business. Some can give you credit towards CUA40720 AC92 Certificate IV in Design (Graphic Design).

  • IPPRP2250 Produce Graphics using Graphics Applications - creative image making with Vector images in Adobe Illustrator. 
    You'll learn the essentials of key industry software Adobe Illustrator and the basics of vector image making which can applied to a range of design requirements such as branding, illustration, infographics and general digital image making.
  • ICTWEB304 Build Simple Web Pages - design your own website or app (UX & UI) in Figma and Squarespace.
    This unit centres around key industry knowledge in Figma and Squarespace. Figma is a widely adopted design tool which is used for designing and prototyping digital designs for apps, websites and wearable technology. Through learning Figma you'll grasp the principles and fundamentals of User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX) Design. Squarespace is a SaaS  provider which provides an easy access point for developing new websites for small and medium size businesses.  
  • CUAACD311 Produce Drawings to Communicate Ideas - Digital Drawing Techniques in Procreate.
    Gain exposure to key industry software Procreate which allows you to draw on iPads to create illustrations in your own style or to a brief, the software gives you the opportunity to create artwork which realistically mimics traditional art mediums. In the process of learning to draw in this digital environment students you'll access introductory illustration skills which can be applied to a variety of design requirements.

Please note, you'll be required to purchase your own Adobe License to be able to use Adobe InDesign and Photoshop. You can do this through the Adobe Website and should check your eligibility for a student licence Adobe Creative Cloud | Details and products | Adobe

Prior to the first lesson, you should download Adobe InDesign and Photoshop and make sure you are able to login into each application.
