Online

This will be fully online with a focus on self-directed online learning and assessment materials, supported with online sessions and meetings. To guide your progress, your lecturers will provide a learning and assessment plan (LAP) that outlines sessions, activities and assessment due dates. Lecturers will be available to answer questions during business hours, and at other times by appointment.

Online delivery can take up to three years to complete, depending on your other commitments. Please note that if you are unable to complete units when they are offered, it is likely to delay your course completion, or a new version of the course may be released necessitating transfer of credits.

Full-time: 12 months (2 semesters)

This is an intensive program best suited to learners who have a high degree of flexibility and strong workplace support. It is particularly suitable for those currently working in management roles, with access to relevant workplace activities and the capacity to dedicate at least 8 hours per week to independent study.

To complete the course within 12 months, you'll need to:

• Complete 6 units per semester.
• Attend one or two 2-hour online sessions each week, according to the scheduled timetable.
• Allocate at least 8 hours per week to independent study.
• Have access to sufficient workplace opportunities to complete and document practical assessment activities.

Part-time: 18 months (3 semesters)

This option is recommended for learners seeking a better work–life–study balance, particularly those with limited access to management responsibilities or who need additional time to complete practical assessments.

To spread the course over 18 months, you'll need to:

• Complete 4 units per semester.
• Attend one or two 2-hour online sessions each week, according to the scheduled timetable.
• Allocate approximately 4–6 hours per week to independent study.
• Have access to relevant workplace opportunities to complete and document practical assessment activities.

Please note: A flexible study load may be arranged upon request, subject to approval.

Assessments include both theoretical and practical components. Practical assessments require you to apply the knowledge and skills learned in the course to workplace situations and provide evidence of this application.

For example, you may be asked to develop a professional development plan for your team, facilitate workplace meetings, or manage an operational plan. In some cases, video recordings or other evidence may be required to demonstrate these activities. If workplace-based evidence is not available, most practical tasks can be simulated in class with peers.

To support your learning, you are required to attend a weekly 2-hour session where key concepts are reinforced, questions are addressed, and guidance is provided on assessments.

At-home study

Study outside of class hours, including private study, assignment preparation, and research will be required to successfully complete your course.

A North Metropolitan TAFE Diploma qualifies you for entry into undergraduate degrees at all WA universities.

Upon successful completion of BSB50420 Diploma of Leadership and Management at NMTAFE, you will meet university entrance requirements and may be eligible for advanced standing/ credit into undergraduate Commerce or Business degrees. 
The major and minor subjects you choose to study as part of your degree will influence the amount of credit you will be awarded.   

Diploma qualifications may be awarded credit for up to 8 units, which is equivalent to a study reduction of 1 year at university.

Please note articulation agreements between NMTAFE and individual universities may be subject to change and you should check with your preferred university for details.

Bring your own device (BYOD) is encouraged but not essential. If you don’t have access to a computer and WiFi at home, we recommend using our library computers during library hours. 

As a student you will also have additional costs associated with your study, for example stationery, printing and other materials required for your assignments.
