How On campus
This is a unique opportunity to enter an analogue typographic world to create unique printed designs on our incredible antique machinery, using a blend of 100+ year-old moveable wood and lead type and experiment with your own customised modern laser cut blocks.
The workshop is designed for the first-time printer, emerging or veteran graphic designers or hobbyist who may have a keen interest in the world of letterpress, 'misprinted' type, and handset experiments. In the workshop, you will have the choice to 'lock up' your type and print using NM TAFE's coveted Columbia Press, baby Albion, A3 Poco Presses, SRA3 Farley benchtop and our two Adana small job hand crank printing presses.
Our facilitator, Phil Gambill (Fresh Lemon Print and past Letterpress Artist in Residence) will work closely with you in small groups to develop a series of beautiful, printed goods, including posters, stationery or printmaking experiments one night a week, for five weeks.
Numbers are strictly limited, and the price includes all materials, including paper, ink and the use of a TROTEC laser cutter to customise your very own type-high wood blocks. You will also undergo a full OHS induction before using the space.
