This course is for students and artists, from amateurs to professionals, emerging to established who are looking to diversify existing skills and want to explore translating an image they have designed into a 3D mask made from a variety of soft and hard materials.
Using the design process to create a soft sculptural mask, you will engage in a cycle of researching, developing, resolving, and reflecting. You'll embark on a hands-on journey, experimenting and exploring ideas with wire, textiles, yarns, and clay, creating samples for the sculptural work, and using what is learnt in the design process to create the final sculpture, 'The Distorted Mask.'
We encourage you, wherever possible, to use materials that are sustainably sourced and/or give existing materials a second life by creating this object of art.
You'll gain the following skills:
- Build wire armature using spot welding
- soft sculpture techniques
- Creative problem solving
