Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

North Metropolitan TAFE’s (NMTAFE) East Perth campus was filled with activity and excitement from 1st July to 3rd July, as it proudly hosted the annual Get Into Resources(opens in a new tab)  event, an interactive, hands-on expo designed to introduce secondary students to the vast career opportunities within WA’s thriving resources sector.

The event, organised by Get Into Resources, was attended by more than 600 students from around 15 regional schools. Over the three -days, students had the opportunity to interact with professionals from across the resources industry and took part in a series of interactive workshops and demonstrations, led by both professionals from leading mining and resource companies and NMTAFE lecturers.

From cyber security and big data to automation, laboratory operations, and surveying, the activities showcased the diversity of roles available in the sector. Each session was created to give students a real-world glimpse into the skills and technologies shaping the future of resources in WA.

The event also served as a platform for industry engagement, with professionals volunteering their time to mentor and inspire the next generation. Their insights helped students understand the pathways into technical and trade roles, and the importance of innovation and sustainability in the field.

As venue host, North Metropolitan TAFE demonstrated its important role in working with industry to empower students with the knowledge and connections needed to launch their career in this booming industry. Jobs and Skills Centre staff were also on hand to speak about the mining and resources courses offered by the College.
