Over three days, a group of enthusiastic students from Aranmore Catholic College had the opportunity to discover a variety of trades in construction at North Metropolitan TAFE’s Balga campus. The students participated in the Try-A-Trade program, a hands-on initiative designed to introduce young people to the diverse and rewarding careers available in the building and construction industry.
The group of year nine and ten students explored a variety of trades in a real training environment. The students were given safety gear and rotated through engaging workshops with our lecturers including:
Bricklaying – learning the fundamentals of laying bricks and building structures.
Tiling – discovering the precision and creativity involved in ceramic tiling.
Wall and Floor Sheeting – gaining insight into interior finishing techniques.
White Card Training – completing essential safety induction for construction sites.
Construction Futures Tour – exploring future pathways and opportunities in the industry.
The Try-A-Trade experience is a chance for students to discover their strengths, build confidence and make informed decisions about their future. Many of the students enjoyed the opportunity to get hands-on experience and be guided by our experienced lecturers through the steps of each trade.
Funded by the Construction Training Fund (CTF), the program is offered at no cost to students.
North Metropolitan TAFE is proud to support the next generation of tradespeople, and we look forward to welcoming more students in future sessions!
