Nick's Lane, Northbridge - 2 April 2025
This project is a collaboration between Diploma of Graphic Design students, the Chung Wah Association, UWA, the City of Perth, and the National Archives of Australia.
By exploring the rich history of Chinese immigration in Western Australia, our students have used striking visual design to bring to life key moments in the history of this community.
The posters displayed in Nick’s Lane explore the challenges they faced which included business restrictions and the White Australia Policy with its Dictation Test and Certificates of Exemption.
These posters are also a celebration of the resilience, contributions, and enduring presence of the Chinese community in shaping our cultural landscape.
We invite you to walk along Nick’s Lane and enjoy the amazing research & design our Graphics students have achieved in their first live brief - and to reflect on the powerful stories behind these designs and engage with the history they represent.
