Become a skilled CG Artist and Animator

CG artists bring imagination to life - designing and creating the environments, characters, props, visual effects and motion graphics that shape animations, films, games and advertisements.

In this Advanced Diploma, you’ll take your skills to the next level. Learn to design characters and worlds, build stunning game and film art, and master leading industry-standard tools. With our strong industry connections, you’ll also have the chance to showcase your work at our end-of-year Expo.

This art-focused qualification gives you high-end, practical skills in concept art, 3D modelling, rigging and animation. You’ll build your own professional showreel and collaborate in a team to create a short animated film or playable game prototype - experience that mirrors real studio practice.

By the time you graduate, you’ll be ready to compete in the global market, confident using the cutting-edge software and workflows that drive today’s top animation, VFX and game studios.

This course is highly practical and you will develop your creative abilities in:

  • 3D character modelling, texturing and rigging
  • Environment and prop creation
  • Concept art
  • Game prototyping
  • Studio Projects
  • Software including Maya, Unreal, Zbrush, Substance Painter, Blender, Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro and After Effects

Other skills developed during the course include:

  • Technical skills - proficiency in animation software packages.
  • Creative skills - concept development, scripting, storyboarding, character design, and world-building are key components of this course.
  • Teamwork and collaboration - some class activities are team-based, simulating a professional environment. You will develop the skills to document observations and experiences related to creative problem solving.

To successfully complete this course, you’ll need the following skills and qualities:

  • Computer skills - familiarity with using a computer navigating advanced animation software and troubleshooting.
  • Artistic skills - some experience with drawing, sketching, or digital art.
