MEM30219 Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade (Fitting)
This apprenticeship course will prepare you to work with pumps and hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, mechanical drives and transmissions. You will also gain hands-on experience using machine tools and applying industry-standard practices across a range of mechanical engineering tasks.
This course is low fee* for residents of Western Australia and temporary residents holding certain visa types. An annual fee cap of $400 for those aged 15-24 or concession holders or $1,200 for everyone else, applies to this course. A trades career making and fixing all things mechanical
This apprenticeship gives you the skills and knowledge you need to work as an Engineering Tradesperson – Mechanical (Fitting) across industries such as mining, defence, manufacturing, automotive, maritime and agriculture.
Throughout your apprenticeship, you will develop the practical skills required to undertake a wide range of mechanical trade work, including fitting, assembly, manufacturing, installation, modification, testing, fault finding, maintenance and servicing of mechanical equipment and machinery. You will also gain experience using machine tools and applying industry-standard practices across a variety of mechanical engineering tasks.
You will develop skills in safe manual handling, the use of hand and power tools, interpreting technical drawings, performing engineering measurements and computations, using digital technologies, carrying out machining operations, diagnosing faults, maintaining mechanical systems, working with pneumatic and hydraulic components, assembling engineering components, safely isolating machinery and applying workplace safety and environmentally sustainable work practices.

- Working with pumps, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, mechanical drives and transmission assemblies.
- Using workshop machinery, hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
- Performing arc welding and thermal cutting operations.
- Interpreting technical drawings and performing accurate engineering measurements.
- Carrying out fitting, assembly, installation, modification, maintenance and fault-finding activities on mechanical equipment and machinery.
- Performing machining operations using workshop equipment, including lathe and milling machines.
- Diagnosing faults and repairing mechanical systems and components.
- Dismantling, replacing and assembling engineering components.
- Safely isolating and shutting down machinery and equipment.
- Applying workplace health and safety requirements and environmentally sustainable work practices.
- Using digital technologies and completing workplace documentation and communication tasks.
