Begin your career in community services and gain job ready skills to become a community support worker.

The Community Services industry assists individual clients, families and communities who are vulnerable or at risk. This job focuses on improving the quality of life of people who need support.

You will learn how to build relationships with clients, carers and their families, support social emotional and physical wellbeing of others, and methods of providing individualised support, information and advice to people in crisis. 

This course has a strong focus on cultural safety, mental health, alcohol and drugs and family and domestic violence; ideal students will have a determination and drive for helping others as well as patience, tolerance, and a passion for social justice.

  • Respond appropriately to situations of family and domestic violence

  • Ethical behaviour and legal responsibilities

Prior to enrolment into this qualification, please consider:

  • Your level of communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to attend on campus classes four days per week and commit to study, for research and assessments outside the scheduled class times.
  • Your ability to study units and perform practical demonstrations/role plays on the following topics: family and domestic violence, trauma, alcohol and other drug use, mental health issues, etc that may be confronting or cause distress
  • If you have the following attributes:

    • A non-judgmental attitude and ability to maintain confidentiality
    • Able to exercise initiative
    • Leadership qualities
