This course is low fee* for residents of Western Australia and temporary residents holding certain visa types. An annual fee cap of $400 for those aged 15-24 or concession holders or $1,200 for everyone else, applies to this course. Some eligibility conditions apply for the low fee training and other fees may apply for some courses. Please refer to the FAQs(opens in a new tab) for more information.

How On campus

There is an ongoing skill shortage in Community Services

When you complete the Diploma of Community Services you could be working in a community services, case management, social housing, mental health or family and domestic violence context.

You will be involved in the managing, co-ordinating and/or delivering of person-centred services to individuals, groups, and communities at risk of adversity. You may also have responsibility for the supervision of other workers and volunteers.

Graduates of our Diploma in Community Services course meet entry requirements for and can even achieve advanced standing in relevant university degrees. As this qualification is one of the Lower fees, local skills half price courses, training at North Metropolitan TAFE will reduce the time and money you spend completing a relevant university degree and you'll be equipped to work in the industry while you study.

Prior to enrolment into this qualification, please consider:

  • If you are under 18 years of age
  • National Police Certificate (compulsory to obtain) - Please note Any criminal conviction will appear on your National Police Certificate and may affect an organisation's decision whether to accept you for Work Placement (Work Placement is a compulsory element of this course)
  • Any difficulty in communicating with either workers or clients. (I.e. difficulty with written or spoken English
  • Ability to set aside between four and five days/week for attendance at classes, work placement and study
  • Ability to attend your work placement regularly and reliable
  • If you have the following attributes:
    • 18+ years of age
    • Able to undertake research and self directed activities
    • Self motivated, pro-active and energetic 
    • Creative thinker with strong problem solving skills
    • Strong decision making skills based on sound judgment and empathy
    • Strong interpersonal and communications skills
