Build a career in rail signalling

Build the specialised skills to install, test, fault-find, repair and maintain rail signalling equipment and systems used across rail infrastructure - helping keep Australia’s rail networks safe and efficient. This qualification prepares you for high-demand roles working with advanced signalling technology in a safety-critical industry.

Developed in consultation with industry, the course reflects current rail sector requirements and includes the Electrical Regulatory Authorities Council (ERAC) requirements for an Electrician’s Licence in Western Australia. You’ll complete 16 units of competency while training in dedicated workshops and simulated rail environments that replicate real-world conditions.

Delivered over two years in four structured stages, the program combines theory with hands-on, workplace-based simulations. Short block releases of up to two weeks per semester allow you to build practical capability while continuing to work in the industry—equipping you with the technical expertise and confidence to succeed.

  • Install, set up and commission rail signalling equipment and systems
  • Test, fault-find, repair and maintain signalling infrastructure
  • Work safely with electrical and signalling equipment in rail environments
  • Interpret signalling diagrams, technical drawings and specifications
  • Use specialised signalling tools, instruments and testing equipment
  • Apply industry regulations and standards, including ERAC licensing requirements in Western Australia

I have the following attributes:

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Good problem-solving and fault-finding ability
  • Commitment to safety and following procedures
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Good communication skills
  • Willingness to learn and apply technical knowledge
  • Reliability and strong work ethic
  • Ability to follow technical instructions and documentation
