This Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is the nationally recognised entry-level qualification for those looking to embark on a career in the vocational education and training (VET) sector. It is aimed at those who wish to train and assess vocational students assisting them on their own learning pathways and is an essential requirement to employment in these roles.

Completion of this course meets the legislative requirements for individuals to deliver accredited training and assess the skill competence of VET students either in a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) or within a work environment as part of a structured VET program.
To enrol in this course you will need to demonstrate that you have current vocational skills, knowledge and expertise that you will be passing on to others after you become a qualified trainer.

  • This course is only delivered in four skill sets, through a mix of both face-to-face workshops and online structured learning and assessment activities. 
    You will need to successfully complete all four skill sets to obtain the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

Covering the program through these skill sets provides you with the latest qualification and the flexibility to complete it within 12 months
The skill sets need to be completed in the order shown below to attain the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

  1. Design the Training Skill Set - once you have completed this skill set, then you can enrol in skill set 2 and so on, progressing through the 4 skill sets to attain your Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
  2. Deliver the Training Skill Set
  3. Assess the Training Skill Set
  4. Industry Ready Skill Set

Completion of each skill set will see you gain a Statement of Attainment.

Informed choices - is this course right for me?

You'll need to have the following skills and knowledge to successfully undertake this study:

  • Effective language, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to develop a range of documentation (e.g., learning programs, assessment tools, written records)
  • Ability to plan and organise, read, research and develop learning and assessment resources.
  • Digital literacy and sound working knowledge and application of computer programs e.g., MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint. 

    Digital essentials to complete the course include:

  • Access to a computer or laptop
  • Reliable broadband Internet access
  • Computer skills to be able to edit word documents (.docx)
  • Access to video recording device (including sound) with the capability to transfer to a computer (e.g. iPhone or similar smartphone)
