The Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is designed for people starting their careers as vocational education and training (VET) teachers, trainers, and assessors. This qualification provides the practical skills and knowledge needed to deliver high quality training to vocational learners and to conduct fair, valid, and reliable assessments for candidates.

Graduates typically work in a range of VET environments, including registered training organisations (RTOs), schools, enterprises, community organisations, and other vocational education settings. The program supports learners to develop strong facilitation skills, confidently design and deliver training programs, and apply assessment practices that meet industry and regulatory standards.

The Certificate IV in Training and Assessment meets the minimum education requirement for trainers and assessors delivering training and assessment without supervision under Australia’s VET legislation, frameworks, and standards. 

By completing this course, you will be equipped to begin a fulfilling career as a vocational trainer, assessor, or lecturer in either the public or private sector. This qualification is essential for anyone wishing to deliver accredited vocational education and training within a registered training organisation in Australia.

This qualification is delivered through a combination of face-to-face workshops and structured online learning and assessment.

Progressing through the course in this order will support you to complete the full qualification within 12 months. You must successfully complete all requirements to achieve the TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

You'll need to have the following skills and knowledge to successfully undertake this study:

  • Effective language, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to develop a range of documentation (e.g., learning programs, assessment tools, written records)
  • Ability to plan and organise, read, research and develop learning and assessment resources.
  • Digital literacy and sound working knowledge and application of computer programs e.g., MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint.
  • Digital essentials to complete the course include:
    • Access to a computer or laptop
    • Reliable broadband Internet access
    • Computer skills to be able to edit word documents (.docx)
    • Access to video recording device (including sound) with the capability to transfer to a computer (e.g. iPhone or similar smartphone)
