Refine your technical expertise and elevate your garment design process

If you make garments - whether professionally or as a hobby - this skill set will give you the essential foundation to take your work further. The skills you gain are highly transferable across both the fashion and costume industries, and will complement the knowledge of current or past students of fashion, textiles, or costume design, as well as industry professionals looking to refine their practice.

You’ll learn how to draft and construct accurate stock-size blocks that meet industry specifications for size and fit. These blocks are the blueprint for patternmaking, forming the base from which new garment styles are developed using flat patternmaking techniques.

During the course, you’ll also learn how to apply relevant Australian legislation, industry standards, and codes of practice to your work. By the end, you’ll be able to accurately measure, draft, fit, and construct pattern blocks with confidence—making this an ideal choice if you’re an aspiring or professional garment designer ready to refine your technical expertise and elevate your design process.
