Build the Skills to Start or Advance Your Transport Career

This course is designed for you if you are entering the road transport industry or already working in the sector and need to upgrade your skills to operate heavy vehicles safely and legally. It is suitable if you are preparing for your first truck driving role, seeking to meet employer or regulatory requirements, or aiming to obtain or progress through HR or other heavy vehicle licence classes. It can also assist existing employees in adapting to new operational requirements in their current roles.

You will develop the skills to safely operate and manoeuvre heavy vehicles in a range of road and traffic conditions, secure and manage loads to meet safety and stability requirements, apply fatigue management practices and work/rest requirements, conduct vehicle inspections and identify defects, and follow safe work practices in line with transport industry regulations.

  • Hold a current C Class driver’s licence.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old to meet training and licensing requirements.
  • Physical ability to climb into vehicles, secure loads, and operate equipment safely.
  • Ability to stay alert to traffic, road conditions, hazards, and blind spots.
  • Ability to follow instructions, complete paperwork, and communicate professionally.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills to read safety information, complete logbooks, and follow procedures.
  • Commitment to workplace safety.
