Take the next step in your Slip Casting journey

This 10-week course will guide you in using paper pulp moulds to produce lightweight, strong plaster moulds. You will create two small paper pulp moulds: one from a found object and one from your own designed form. The second piece can be functional or sculptural, and may be hand-built or wheel-thrown. You will develop your design through research into historical and contemporary artists, using this as inspiration for your final piece.

Learn how to “block in” forms to create multi-part moulds using paper pulp, helping to reduce weight and material use, while also exploring effective mould release techniques. You will create and use a plaster texture panel with paper clay slip for decorative purposes, expanding your surface design options.

You’ll also build skills in preparing and managing casting slip, along with confidence in pouring, timing, releasing, and trimming techniques for multi-part moulds.

This course is intended for students who have completed EAE97 Introduction to Slip Casting Skill Set, or who already have prior experience in mould making and slip casting.
