Expand your photography skills
Follows on from the Photography Essentials (previously Stage 1) course and allows photographers to take their photography to the next level.
This course will help you build confidence in creating images with intention, with a focus on light, lighting techniques, and visual storytelling. You will explore how different types of light can shape mood, subject and style, including natural light, artificial light, flash, and studio-based techniques.
Moving beyond simply taking photographs, this course encourages you to experiment with lighting, composition and creative decision-making while developing your own photographic style and approach. You will have the opportunity to explore a range of practical shooting situations, including portraiture, location lighting and studio-inspired setups.
You will need to bring:
- Your DSLR camera or digital compact camera with manual shutter speed, aperture and ISO controls
- Pen and notepad
- You must wear enclosed shoes e.g. sneakers or leather type shoes
Please note this short course will be run subject to enrolment numbers.
Topics covered in this course include:
- Visual literacy and portrait photography
- Understanding and working with available light
- Studio lighting fundamentals
- On-camera and off-camera flash techniques
- Lighting techniques for location photography
- Developing confidence with manual camera settings in different lighting conditions
