Film, TV and Radio

There's no business like show business and there is no show without all the work behind the scenes. North Metropolitan TAFE offers Screen and Media courses in Animation, Film & TV, Games Design, Radio Broadcast and Visual Effects. Our lecturers and students are behind the scenes on exciting projects and events in Australia and overseas – and you can be part of that too!

In recent years the increase in screen investment and a strong flow of production in Western Australia has boosted the growth of local activity, with the latest Screenwest Strategic Plan identifying a set target of increasing production investment to $150 million in WA annually by 2024. Screenwest has reported that screen investment in Western Australia hit over $51 million in 2019-20, doubling the size of WA's screen industry over the past three years.

The State Government has committed to launch a $20 million production attraction fund and to develop a $100 million studio and sound stage in the Fremantle region. This expansion will create large numbers of supporting technical and production jobs. In the long-term, the studio is expected to support approximately 2,800 film production and associated precinct hospitality jobs each year.

Our Screen and Media courses are strategically positioned to benefit directly from this new development by training the potential workforce to meet these demands.

Through our courses we provide access to industry-based mentors via strong, current industry connections. You'll be ready to take advantage of industry opportunities while at the same time having a pathway to further tertiary education.

We work with industry partners, so you'll learn the industry’s latest trends and techniques. Collaboration with Screenwest and Matchbox Pictures on the ABC Television drama series “The Heights”, gave students the opportunity to gain work experience on set.

Joondalup campus’s specialised training courses in Animation and Visual Effects offer students the opportunity to work in a dedicated studio on feature films and TV series for major production houses such as Netflix, Warner Bros, Hulu and Disney.
