The 2026 Skills West Careers and Employment Expo has wrapped up after another successful three days at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, with more than 20,000 visitors coming through the doors between 23 and 25 July.
One of the standout features of this year’s expo was the strong presence of TAFE WA, with North Metropolitan TAFE and South Metropolitan TAFE working together under the TAFE WA banner to showcase the many exciting training and career pathways available at the College's.
A key focus of the collaborative exhibit was bringing the You Can Make It Here campaign to life. Through the TAFE WA Activation Zone and Try’aSkill area, around 7,000 secondary school students had the opportunity to experience firsthand what a future in vocational education and training could look like.
The interactive space was buzzing with activity as students took part in hands-on experiences including a nailing challenge, glass cutting activity, plastering, health checks with the REACH team, a walk-through of a prefabricated house, and a behind-the-scenes look at operating a camera dolly in the screen and media area.
BOOM Radio were also on-hand broadcasting from the event with live music performances in the screen and media area drawing in a crowd over the three days.
Overall, these experiences helped spark conversations about future careers while showcasing the diverse range of industries and opportunities available through TAFE WA.
Throughout the event, staff and lecturers from both North Metropolitan TAFE and South Metropolitan TAFE worked side by side, sharing their expertise and helping visitors navigate course options, apprenticeships, traineeships and career pathways.
The collaborative approach highlighted the strength of TAFE WA in providing accessible, industry-relevant training that supports students, job seekers and career changers alike.
The expo attracted people at all stages of their career journey. Whether visitors were secondary school students planning their next step, professionals looking to upskill, or job seekers exploring new opportunities, the event provided valuable insights into the skills and qualifications needed for the jobs of today and tomorrow.
The success of the TAFE WA exhibit was made possible by the dedication and enthusiasm of our staff and lecturers. Their willingness to engage with visitors, answer questions and share their industry knowledge helped create a welcoming and inspiring experience for everyone who attended.
The strong partnership between North Metropolitan TAFE and South Metropolitan TAFE, combined with the energy of the You Can Make It Here campaign, helped make this year’s Skills West Expo a memorable showcase of what TAFE has to offer.
We look forward to returning in 2027 for another exciting Skills West Careers and Employment Expo!
