Last month, North Metropolitan TAFE came together to commemorate a huge milestone – 50 years of NAIDOC celebrations.
Building off the success of previous years, this year’s celebration focussed on the future generation of First Nations leaders – while recognising and honouring those who have endured and led the way.
The event was held at NMTAFE’s Balga campus and brought together members of our staff as well as Governing Council, representatives from the City of Stirling, sponsors and students from Woodbridge Primary school.
The day was organised by our incredible Stage II Diploma of Events Management students in collaboration with the Koolark Centre for Aboriginal Students.
The celebration included a Welcome to Country by Aboriginal Elder, Uncle Kevin Fitzgerald who also led the crowd in a smoking ceremony.
There was also a range of activities, including musical and cultural performances, health checks by our REACH team, live on-air program with Boom radio, tote bag screening and delicious traditional food, giving attendees the opportunity to come together, connect and celebrate.
Thank you to everyone that attended NMTAFE’s NAIDOC Week celebration event.
We now look forward to the next generation leading with strength and vision and building on the legacy and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across Australia.
