On 19 September, North Metropolitan TAFE (NMTAFE) celebrated the achievements of the Women in Non-traditional Trades (WINTT) scholarship recipients at an award ceremony hosted by NMTAFE Balga campus.
Twenty scholarship recipients for the 2025 academic year were formally recognised and presented with their certificates at the event, which was attended by guests and employers of the scholarship recipients, along with NMTAFE staff who had supported the students as lecturers and mentors.
The WINTT scholarship program aims to increase access, representation, and opportunities for women in technical and trades-based careers in traditionally male-dominated industries such as building and construction, engineering, mining, and automotive.
Since 2024, NMTAFE has offered twenty scholarships per academic year, valued at $5,000 each.
The scholarship can be used to cover expenses such as course fees, learning resources, tools, workwear and personal protective equipment, work tickets and licences, transport, accommodation, and childcare.
Scholarship recipients also receive tailored mentoring and support services to assist them in completing their qualifications and transitioning successfully into employment.
