Bringing resources careers to life at GIR 2026

3 July 2026

We welcomed more than 700 secondary school students, at our East Perth campus, for the annual Get Into Resources (GIR) event, providing an exciting and interactive introduction to the diverse career opportunities available across WA's resources sector.

The event, organised by the Get Into Resources Committee, was held over three days, and connected students with industry professionals, educators and volunteers who shared their knowledge and passion for working in the industry.

Students gained valuable insight across a range of careers including mining, automation, cybersecurity, laboratory operations, surveying, engineering, trades and emerging technologies.

Industry volunteers played a key role in helping students understand the broad range of career pathways available and the qualifications needed to pursue them. The resources sector offers more than 150 different career options, many of which are often overlooked by students considering their future studies and employment opportunities.

As a leading vocational education provider, NMTAFE showcased its strong connections with industry and highlighted the training pathways available to support future careers in resources.

Get Into Resources continues to play an important role in building awareness of the industry and inspiring the next generation of professionals, technicians and tradespeople. Through the commitment of the GIR Committee, industry sponsors and NMTAFE, the event is helping to strengthen WA's future workforce and talent pipeline.
