We have once again proven our commitment to excellence in vocational education and training, with two of our outstanding students, Amina Umer and Arabella Poole, recognised as winners in their categories at the prestigious 2025 WA Training Awards on 5th September.

The awards ceremony, now in its 31st year, celebrated the achievements of individuals and organisations across Western Australia’s vocational education and training (VET) sector.

Among the 43 finalists, NMTAFE had nominations in the WA International Student of the Year; WA Cultural Diversity Training; WA Vocational Student of the Year; and WA Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander of the Year awards categories.

We also had two remarkable wins that reflect the diversity, resilience, and determination of our student community. These wins not only highlight the personal achievements of Amina and Arabella but also highlights our role in empowering students to thrive in their chosen fields.

Congratulations to all our finalists and winners, you have a bright future ahead!

Amina Umer – WA Cultural Diversity Training Award

Amina arrived in Australia in 2021 from Ethiopia with a life goal of building a better future for herself and family. She enrolled in a Certificate III in Adult Migrant English Program to improve her English and communication skills, so she could undertake further VET courses to work in aged care or nursing. Amina says training has not only improved her skills, but it has also given her hope and direction. She has more belief in herself and is excited about her future.

Arabella Poole – WA Vocational Student of the Year

Arabella Poole’s journey to becoming WA Vocational Student of the Year is one of courage and transformation. After facing 13 years of medical challenges that disrupted her education, Arabella found a new path through vocational training by enrolling in a Certificate IV in Fitness at NMTAFE. She is now a personal trainer and group fitness instructor at Feel Your Best Fitness and Massage. Arabella is dedicated to creating safe, empowering spaces for all individuals through physical movement and connection.
