Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship

About

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship is provided to applicants who identify as an Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, and be recognised as such by their community.

Special eligibility conditions

Only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students can apply for this scholarship.

Equity Scholarship
Number of scholarships available

Up to three (3)

Amount of scholarship

$2,500

The Equity Scholarship is provided to recipients who clearly demonstrate that the scholarship will reduce barriers and improve accessibility to their chosen NMTAFE course of study.  Personal hardship will also be taken into consideration when assessing applications. Examples include: 

  • Personal medical conditions 
  • Disabilities or learning needs 
  • Dependents with special needs.
Ex-Defence Force Personnel Scholarship

The Ex-Defence Force Personnel Scholarship is provided to applicants who can provide evidence that they are:

  • An Ex-serving Australian Defence Force (ADF) member or;
  • An ADF member in active or inactive reserve forces or;
  • A current ADF serving members about to transition/separate within 3-6 months.
Special eligibility conditions

Only ex Defence Personnel can apply for this scholarship.

Gender Access Scholarship

Amount of scholarship

The Gender Access Scholarship is provided to recipients to reduce gender imbalance and promote diversity in student cohort. Examples include the promotion of women in trades and STEM and/or men in health and education. The scholarship will be utilised to reduce barriers and improve accessibility to their chosen course of study which is in a non-traditional area for them.

Kickstart Scholarship

The Kickstart Scholarship of $500 is open to all NMTAFE applicants and is provided to recipients who clearly demonstrate that the scholarship will reduce barriers and improve accessibility to their chosen course of study

STEM Scholarship

Our Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Scholarship is provided to applicants who clearly demonstrate that the scholarship will be used to reduce barriers and improve accessibility to study and/or work within the Science Technology Engineering or Mathematics industry.

Scholarships will be provided only to students who meet the criteria to apply and be accepted to enrol into a relevant course at NMTAFE.

Have you applied for a course at NMTAFE?
You will need to apply and be accepted to enrol in a relevant NMTAFE course to be eligible for a scholarship.
You can choose either or both semesters.

Applicant statement

Please include a 200 - 400 word response to all questions as listed below. 

Selection by the Scholarship panel is made on the basis of applicants meeting the Scholarship eligibility criteria, terms and conditions and the applicants answers to the following questions.
 
As an example, have you always wanted to study this course? What will you do after this course?
Do you, and other people in your community, identify you as an Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander?
Are you an ex-serving Australian Defence Force (ADF) member or an ADF member in active or inactive reserve forces or an current ADF serving member about to transition/separate within 3-6 months?

Applicant declaration

I declare that the information supplied on this form and any information supplied to the panel, is true and correct and  I authorise the release of this application and supporting documents, to the convened panel reviewing applications for this award.

I accept the panel’s decision cannot by appealed and no correspondence concerning the decisions will be entered into.  

In signing this declaration, I acknowledge I have received, understood and accept the relevant scholarship eligilbility terms and conditions.

I understand that applicants in the following categories are NOT eligible for a scholarship:
  • Applicants not entitled to pay local fees such as international students and visa holders.
  • Applicants who receive a fee waiver.
  • Applicants who do not meet the criteria to apply/enrol in the relevant NMTAFE course.
Lack of adequate course progression in any NMTAFE course may preclude applicants from receiving  this or subsequent scholarships.
