Trade Skills Recognition (TSR) is available to individuals seeking to have their trade skills and experience formally recognised through a qualification. This is achieved via the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process for qualifications typically completed through an apprenticeship pathway.
Eligibility and conditions for TSR:
- Candidates do not need to be indentured in a training contract to apply for TSR.
- To be eligible, candidates must demonstrate competency in all units of the relevant qualification through RPL. This requires providing sufficient evidence that their existing skills and experience meet the full requirements of the qualification.
- Credit transfers and Recognition of Current Competency (RCC) are not accepted for the issuance of a trade certificate under the TSR process.
- As with any RPL process, gap training is not permitted. Candidates must already possess the complete skill set and knowledge required for the qualification at the time of assessment.
North Metropolitan TAFE (NMTAFE), as an approved Registered Training Organisation (RTO), can conduct the RPL process and recommend candidates for TSR. However, final eligibility assessment and approval is determined by the WA Department of Training and Workforce Development’s Apprenticeship Office.
Before submitting an application, please ensure you have read and understood the Apprenticeship Office’s TSR Fact Sheet, which outlines the process and requirements in detail.
