Withdrawing from Your Course or Units
Before withdrawing, take time to explore the support available—you may not need to withdraw at all.
- Course issues: If the course feels too hard or isn’t what you expected, speak with your Head of Program about alternatives.
- Financial concerns: Contact Client Services for help with fees or payments.
- Health and wellbeing: Visit the Supporting Students Wellbeing page or connect with Accessibility and Learning Support.
- Study support: Access Library Services(opens in a new tab) , Read Write Now(opens in a new tab) (free tutoring), or Koolark Mentors for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
Important Information Before Withdrawing
Partial withdrawals (withdrawing from some units)
Talk to your Head of Program first. Some units are prerequisites or part of a cluster, and withdrawing may delay your progress or require you to complete extra units later.
Fees, refunds, and payments
- Check your Census dates in your Confirmation of Enrolment or Student Portal and review the Refund Policy to see if you are eligible (Client Services can assist if you are unsure).
- If you are on a payment plan, payments must continue until all fees are cleared.
- VET Student Loan fees are deferred to your loan.
- Refunds or credits can only be processed if NMTAFE has a valid USI on record.
Concessions and access
- Centrelink and Transperth concessions require full time enrolment; withdrawing may affect your eligibility.
- If you withdraw, access to training and NMTAFE systems (including Blackboard) will cease immediately.
- Your Microsoft 365 account will be disabled and deleted 85 days after you finish or withdraw. Save any required files beforehand, as data cannot be recovered.
International Students
- You must remain enrolled full‑time for visa compliance
- Speak to the International Centre before making any changes
- Do not complete this withdrawal form
Returning Later
If you withdraw from your course, you must re-apply to study in the future.
Making Your Withdrawal Official
If you decide to withdraw complete the official withdrawal form below. Simply stopping attendance or notifying a lecturer does not count as an official withdrawal and may result in academic or financial penalties.
