Kick start your education, training and work skills

The Certificate I in General Education for Adults is a bridging course to future employment or study. Completing this course will improve your English, introduce you to the fundamentals of basic numeracy, and build your computer and technology skills.  It will also help you build the confidence and skills you need to enter the workforce or pursue further study.

When successfully completed this course will meet the entry requirements for most Certificate I, II and III TAFE courses.

All General Education students are required to participate in a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) session to determine their current LLN level. This will help determine if the course you have chosen is a good fit for you and at an appropriate level. Please note we have limited places for our courses and attending the session does not guarantee you a place.

Please note This course will only run with sufficient enrolment numbers for the intakes on each campus, and it is not equivalent to completing years 10, 11 or 12.

  • Understanding written and digital texts for personal use
  • Developing sentence structure, punctuation, and vocabulary
  • Reading and writing simple workplace documents
  • Building on basic computing and technology skills
  • Developing career pathway options
  • Understanding practical, everyday use of numbers for life skills, such as budgeting, shopping and reading simple statistics
  • Creating graphical representations of basic data 

This course is open to all ages, however in:

  • Semester 1 - you need to have turned 15 years old by January 31.
  • Semester 2 - you need to have turned 15 years old by June 30.

All applicants for Midland - Swan City Youth Service must be 15-24 years old. 

We also recommend that you have the following attributes:

  • A desire to build confidence and re-engage with learning
  • A desire to prepare for participation in further education (TAFE course)
  • A desire to prepare for participation in employment
  • Able to monitor and review own performance in achieving learning goals
