You'll be able to access your personal timetable (find out how on our Timetables page), once you have paid your fees. In the meantime the information below provides an indication of the time commitment required to complete this course, depending on available study options.

On campus

This course is equivalent to two (2) days per week face-to-face when studied full-time across one semester.

At-home study

As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately four (4) hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study, assignment preparation, and research.

You will need to have the basic technical requirements for at-home study. If you don’t have access to a computer and WiFi at home, we recommend using our library computers during library hours.

Successful completion of this dual qualification could lead to an apprenticeship or employment as a technician’s trade assistant in these areas. Many employers regard basic training in electrical/electronic theory as a pre-requisite to employment in these fields.

As a student you will also have additional costs associated with your study, for example text books and stationery, printing and other materials required for your assignments.

Equipment

There is a requirement to purchase equipment for this course. This will also be advised at orientation, however, the cost is approximately $150.

Important You will need to have an Engineering Symbol Function on your calculator, which school ones don’t. Although a school calculator will work, you will have many more key strokes and have to interpret the readings, which usually leads to errors and mistakes.
