Develop the knowledge and confidence to work as a qualified fitness instructor. You will learn how to deliver safe and effective exercise programs, apply anatomy and movement principles, support client health and fitness goals, and work confidently in gym and fitness environments.

How On campus
Gain the knowledge and skills to step into the rewarding and fast-paced world of fitness
This course will prepare you to work as a qualified fitness instructor by developing your ability to plan and deliver safe, effective and engaging exercise programs for a range of clients.
You will build practical skills in gym instruction, exercise programming, fitness appraisal, risk management, healthy eating, technology and workplace safety, while developing the communication, organisation and customer service skills needed in the fitness industry.
You will also complete a supervised work placement, giving you the opportunity to apply your skills in a real fitness industry environment.
Please note: For Semester 2, 2026, this course is offered full-time only at our Perth campus and part-time only at our Joondalup campus.
Develop practical skills to work in gym and fitness environments, including:
- Delivering safe and effective exercise programs.
- Instructing individuals, groups and circuit-style classes.
- Using fitness equipment safely and effectively.
- Supporting clients to achieve health and fitness goals.
- Applying anatomy, physiology and healthy eating knowledge.
- Communicating with clients in a positive and motivating way.
- Following workplace health, safety and risk management procedures.
This course may suit you if you enjoy being active, working with people and helping others improve their health and fitness. You will need to be enthusiastic, reliable, customer-focused and willing to develop your confidence instructing individuals and groups.

- communicate well and like helping others,
- can work safely and follow instructions,
- are organised and able to manage your time,
- work well in a team environment, and
- are able to complete practical fitness, manual handling and first aid activities.
