Bridge the gap between your overseas electrical practices and Australian standards

If you’re an overseas-qualified electrician now living in Western Australia, this state-accredited course, approved by Building and Energy WA, is designed for you. It gives you the knowledge and skills you need to apply for your WA Unrestricted Electrical Licence.

Your experience and expertise may be extensive, but Australian standards, wiring rules, and installation requirements differ from those in other countries. These differences can impact safety and compliance, which is why regulators require you to complete gap training before you can work unrestricted in WA.

This course provides the mandatory gap training for holders of an Offshore Technical Skills Record (OTSR) or Technical Skills Assessment Record (TSAR) for the Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician qualification.

By completing this course, you’ll meet the requirements to apply for an Unrestricted WA Electrician’s Licence from the Electrical Licensing Board, so you can continue your career with confidence and compliance.

To be able to undertake this Gap Training you must:

  • hold an Offshore Technical Skills Record (OTSR) or Technical Skills Assessment Record (TSAR) From a Registered Training Organisation (RTO)
  • hold an Electrical Worker's Permit (to complete gap training) issued by Building and Energy (WA). This refers to form R145 in the LGIRS website.
  • hold a certificate of currency for resuscitation (HLTAID009 CPR) obtained within the last twelve months
  • hold a certificate of currency for performing rescue from a live panel (UETDRRF004) obtained within the last twelve months
