How On campus
Build the engines that power the web
Go beyond websites. Build the back-end systems that power modern web applications — including database design, cloud applications, big data, and machine learning. Work on live projects and graduate ready for industry.
Front-end is what users see. Back-end is what makes it work. This Diploma takes you into the engineering layer of the modern web: database design, cloud application development, information architecture, big data, and machine learning. You’ll gain practical experience through live client projects and develop the professional skills employers expect at this level, graduating job-ready.
What you will build
- Database design and back-end architecture for real, commercial-grade websites
- Cloud application development and information architecture
- Working exposure to big data and machine learning concepts
- Web app development across the full life cycle
- Project management, client communication and team-based delivery skills
The Perth campus is excited to be offering this course also as part of a dual qualification to give you greater opportunities to advance your career and enhance your skill set. You can choose to enrol in one extra day per week, for two semesters, and graduate with the Diploma of Information Technology (Advanced Programming) plus the Diploma of Information Technology (Back End Web Development).
New students who have not studied the course that precedes this qualification should contact the area to ensure they apply for the correct level of study.
- Advanced problem solving and research skills
- Frameworks, WordPress, SASS software
I have the following attributes:
- Sound underpinning knowledge of Python, C#, PHP, SQL, HTML5, CSS3, Responsive Web design and IoT.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Aptitude for design
- Interested in developing knowledge of computer programming languages
- Happy to keep up to date with new web technologies and trends
I have attended the end of year graduations of students from North Metropolitan TAFE for the Certificate IV in Programming, Cert IV in Web Based Technologies, Diploma of Software Development and Diploma of Website Development. As part of the experience, I see their end of year projects demonstrated and have the opportunity to question them on what they have built and the extent of their knowledge. Those students are Industry ready. I have attended for at least the past four years, probably longer, and continue to be impressed with what I see. The courses get stronger each year, and the students graduating have a lot to offer.
