Build the foundations for a career in IT

Networks power everything from business communications and cloud services to websites and applications. In this practical introductory program, you'll build a solid foundation in IP networking, learning about network protocols, topologies, hardware components, software configuration, and the role each plays in modern IT environments.

Through hands-on activities using virtual operating systems, you'll simulate server and client environments to develop practical troubleshooting and configuration skills. No previous IT experience is required, making this an ideal starting point for anyone considering a career in IT.

  • Explain how IP networks function, including key protocols, IP addressing and common network topologies.
  • Plan, install, and configure server and client software within a virtualised environment.
  • Test network functionality and systematically resolve faults.
  • Complete installation records, asset registers, and client sign-off documentation.

I have the following attributes:

  • Basic computer skills and confidence using a computer
  • An interest in IT and computer networking
  • No prior networking knowledge or experience required
