You'll be able to access your personal timetable (find out how on our Timetables page), once you have paid your fees. In the meantime the information below provides an indication of the time commitment required to complete this course, depending on available study options.

On campus

You are required to attend orientation, where important information will be provided regarding timetables and uniforms. 

This course requires you to attend classes four days per week for one semester when studied full-time.  

Practical training
You must participate in training and assessment at on campus Live Works such as the Pavilion Restaurant or simulated Café to develop practical skills and gain hands on experience.

You are required to complete two service shifts each week as part of your course.

These shifts can be scheduled as one lunch shift AND one dinner shift at The Pavilion Restaurant (Joondalup).

Important: Dinner shifts may finish as late as 10:00 pm.

At-home study 

As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete additional study each week outside of scheduled classes, including private study, assignment preparation, and research. 

Traineeships

Traineeships are primarily work-based learning, where you participate in on-site visits or collaborate online with lecturers. Lecturers assist in creating personalised learning plans to guide your progress through the units.

Upon enrolment, you'll have access to an online learning system, providing learning materials and assessments.

Under traineeship arrangements, employers must support you in completing your qualification. This includes aligning your work tasks with the qualification, providing supervision and recognising training time as work hours. Employers should allocate part of the workday for TAFE training.

All Hospitality student placements take place on campus at the Pavilion Restaurant (Joondalup) and Chalk n Cheese Café (Northbridge), providing hands-on experience to develop your practical skills.

Key details: 

• Joondalup restaurant classes may run until 10:00 PM, one night per week.
• Your placement runs throughout the semester, with times scheduled according to your unit timetable.

Bring your own device (BYOD) is encouraged but not essential. If you don’t have access to a computer and WiFi at home, we recommend using our library computers during library hours.

As a student you will also have additional costs associated with your study, for example text books and stationery, printing and other materials required for your assignments.

The following uniform is required to be purchased at approximately $150.00:

• Student polo shirt (black with embroidered NMTAFE logo) — available at Totally Workwear
• Black cotton round-neck T-shirt (no logo required)
• Black pants
• Blue denim “Memphis” apron (no logo required) — available at Totally Workwear
• Enclosed black footwear (prices from approximately $69.90)

North Metropolitan TAFE uniforms are available from Totally Workwear.
