Build real websites. Learn coding foundations. Start your pathway into digital careers.

Web development skills are used across business websites, digital products, online services, e‑commerce platforms and user‑facing applications — not just “making websites”.

This course gives you practical front‑end and back‑end web development foundations; with real projects you can use in a portfolio and a clear pathway into further study or junior digital roles.

Enter the vast world of website design and development

This course is designed for learners who want to move beyond basic digital skills and start building real web projects.

You’ll learn how websites are planned, designed, built and improved using industry‑standard tools and techniques. The focus is on hands‑on development, problem‑solving, and understanding how web technologies work together in real‑world contexts.

These projects will help you demonstrate your skills in a practical, tangible way building a strong foundation for learners planning to progress into Diploma‑level study or entry‑level web and digital roles.

In this course, you’ll learn to build:

  • Responsive websites using HTML5, CSS3 and modern layout techniques
  • Interactive website features using JavaScript
  • Database‑driven web components using PHP and MySQL
  • Websites designed with UX and UI principles, focused on real users
  • Portfolio projects you can show employers or use to apply for further study

This course may suit you if:

  • You enjoy building things and seeing your work come to life on screen
  • You like solving problems and improving digital experiences for users
  • You’re comfortable working to deadlines and refining work based on feedback
  • You’re interested in how the web continues to evolve
  • You want a structured pathway into web development or further IT study

I have attended the end of year graduations of students from North Metropolitan TAFE for the Certificate IV in Programming, Cert IV in Web Based Technologies, Diploma of Software Development and Diploma of Website Development. As part of the experience, I see their end of year projects demonstrated and have the opportunity to question them on what they have built and the extent of their knowledge. Those students are Industry ready. I have attended for at least the past four years, probably longer, and continue to be impressed with what I see. The courses get stronger each year, and the students graduating have a lot to offer.

Michelle Sandford, Chairman of the Australian Computer Society in WA, and Microsoft STEM Advocate
